Help for Producers

The Story Tsunami project was completed in April of 2005. This page and its linked supporting pages were used by local producers to create their own events. These pages have been saved, as they were originally posted, to serve as a model for producers of any and all future benefit events. Feel free to use the press release model, the time-line, and other resources for the promotion of your storytelling projects.

Time Line

Here's a Time Line of the kinds of things that need to get done to produce a highly visible public event, from start to finish, in six weeks.

You could choose to do something much more simple, such as call your friends, family, and fans and ask them to bring their check books to your house for an evening of storytelling sharing.

Or, find something in between these two extremes, by joining with an organization that has a building, or a group that meets regularly. In that case, you would work with the storytellers, the organization would do house management, and share publicity duties.

How to manage the fundraising

Before getting too far into the production process, please review the page on Managing Donations and review these forms:

Agency Report Forms in PDF format or Agency Report Forms in HTML
Final Report Form to send to Story Tsunami

Registration

If you want your event to be listed on this web site, please use the Registration Form and mail it to Story Tsunami as soon as possible.

Stories from the tsunami region

Jackie Baldwin has created a special SOS (Search for Stories) list to help storytellers and teachers find stories from Sumatra, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India, Thailand, the Maldives, Andaman, and Nicobar Islands, and Somalia, as well as stories about tsunamis from other parts of the Asia. Many thanks to contributors, including Margaret Read McDonald, Cathy Spagnoli, Laura Simms, and members of the Storytell list.

Publicity Tools

Sample press release, calendar listing, and public service announcement - plug and play publicity tools! Use these examples to quickly put together a complete press kit.

Here's an example local use of the press release model by Jane Sims for the upcoming concert in Asheville, NC.
