About
the Story Tsunami project
"Story Tsunami" was a wave of storytelling benefit concerts
for the victims of the December 26, 2004 earthquake and tsunami in Asia.
The goal was to create a wave of love and compassion in response to
the wave of devastation. Target goal for the project was 50 events to
raise $50,000; this goal was exceded with 58 events raising $56,235.
The target
date for Story Tsunami events was the month of February in 2005, with
most events taking place on Sunday, February 20th, 2005. The earliest
event took place on January 8th, and the last one was on April 23, 2005.

Learn
about the Relief Agencies
The organizing committee of the Story Tsunami project selected four
relief agencies as the primary recipients for the funds raised: Mercy
Corps, Oxfam, Save the Children, and the American Red Cross. These agencies
were selected for their high ratio of program vs administrative expense,
and for their commitment to long term recovery that is culturally appropriate.
Each participating storytelling organization made their own decisions
on whether to send their funds to one or more of these agencies, or
to support other agencies doing similar work in response to the tsunami
disaster.
